Volunteer Opportunities

The Big Springs PTA invites all parents to volunteer at Big Springs Elementary School. Many programs at Big Springs would not exist without the help of our enthusiastic volunteers. If you would like to be involved in any of the areas listed, please click on any link below to email the appropriate individual with your name and telephone number.

Annual Picnic - We will need at least 4 people to help distribute food at the annual picnic, Thursday, September 22nd 5:30pm till dusk. This task should only take about 30 minutes after the meals arrives.

Art - Help Art Teacher display student art work before Open House

Beautification - Assist in planning and caring for flowers on school grounds

Book Fair - Sort donated books in categories, and or set up at Book Fair

Carnival - Serve on committees for games, food, activities, business donations, entertainment, decorations, etc.

Childsafe - Call parents of absent children and help with attendance records.

Clinic - Administer band-aids, take temperatures, call parents

Computer Lab

Fall Fundraiser - Assist with collecting order forms, counting money, distributing orders upon arrival

Homeroom Parent - Assist with Class Parties and Teacher Goodie Day

Homeroom Parent Grade Level Coordinator - Works with Homeroom Coordinator by communicating information to other homeroom parents, coordinating planning meetings for class parties (Winter Party and Valentine Party)

Hospitality - Provide a dish for Teacher Appreciation Luncheons, Goodie Day, etc.

Junior Great Books - Student literature enrichment

Junior Great Books is in need of volunteers! Please consider becoming part of a very rewarding reading and discussion program. This program allows the children to read classic literature and then gives them an opportunity to share their own ideas, questions and thoughts about what they read. And, it is fun too!

There will be a training session/lunch in late September. I am especially in need of parent volunteers for grades 1-4! And, additional volunteers are needed for grades 5 & 6. If you have a love of reading and enjoy a good discussion then please consider Junior Great Books!

Library - Assist Librarian, shelving books, etc.

Material Center - Help make copies, laminating, etc. (during staff lunch duty time)

PTA Directory - Assist Directory Chairman, alphabetizing, data entry, binding, et.

PTA Membership - Assist membership Chairman with filling out membership cards and distributing PTA directory

PTA Scrapbook - Assist Historian by taking photos at events

School Front Office - Assist School Secretaries, answering phones, filing, etc.

School Store - Sell school supplies before school (7:45am - 8:10am)

Student Aid - Assist with RISD Clothes Closet for needy/eligible students

Traffic Assistance - Assist safety patrol and school staff before or after school. John Feekin (school) 469-593-8100

Vision/Hearing Screening - Assist nurse once or twice a year

Yearbook - Assist Yearkbook Chairwoman in taking pictures at events

Youth Protection - Help with Red Ribbon Week (Drug Awareness)
